Happy Mother's Day!
Friday, May 9, 2008 -
Good morning and welcome to Friday's blog.
No surprise here that today I've chosen to write about Mother's Day...we all have one...are one...or want to be one someday so it's a day that really resonates with everyone.I would be remiss in not paying tribute to my own mom as we get closer to the big day on Sunday.
What can I say about the one person in my life who has always been there for me, has never once let me down, is my biggest fan, and would throw herself in front of a moving bus if it meant saving either my sister or myself? Words seem inadequate but that's all I've got to work with today:)
Everyone has their own special story with their mothers and I'm no different. My mom raised my sister and I from the time we were 3 and 5 all by herself, worked full time, managed a household, and somehow always found the time to make my sister and I feel like we were the centre of her universe. Although we would see our dad every other weekend, my mom had us the majority of the time which meant that she had most of the grunt work:) She doled out the discipline...helped us with our homework...guided us through our three year old noodle girl temper tantrums in the grocery store and our teenage years with grace and dignity and nurtured and inspired two very different daughters to pursue their individual dreams in life. The amazing thing is that my sister and I are both doing exactly what we feel we were called to do and we owe all the credit to one woman and that's my mother.
When I look back now as an adult, it simply humbles me to think of the sacrifices she has made for us, the dedication she has shown to us, and the bottomless amount of love she always makes available to us.
I've always heard that there is nobody you will ever meet in your life...not your best friend...not your husband...or even your own kids...who will ever love you like your mother. Unfortunately, they are often the one's we take for granted the most.
So today as we head towards Mother's Day...I want to say thank you mom... no Hallmark card could possibly ever put into words how much I admire, love, and appreciate everything you've done for us over the years.
Have a great weekend and love to everyone this Mother's Day,
Tara
