Do you remember back in the summer when they closed the doors of the Simcoe District Co-op in Barrie? It was a really sad day because the place had been in business since the 40's and the staff were like friends to their customers. It was the one lawn/garden/farm type store that I always loved to go to. Well.....good news....its back! The business has re-opened as Country Depot and its in the same spot on Innisfil Street with 90 percent of the original staff returning! This is great news. Manager Barry Leigh......aside from being a really smart guy about all things garden-y......is a character. Its always so much fun to go there. ( if you can handle his corny jokes) I always tell him its like an old fashioned hardware store in Mayberry.....you almost feel like Floyd the Barber will be showing up to chat and Aunt Bee will drop some muffins by. It really always felt like old home week whenever I'd drop in. Most of the customers were regulars and there was a real family feel to the place. I am thrilled its back. Barry says it will be very much the same but with more organic products . I can hardly wait to grab a coffee and pull up a lawn seed sack...plop myself down and get caught up on the news. B 101 will be live on location for the "official" opening ( but its open now) on Saturday , April 25th. I'll be there with my crocs on!
