It's always in the last place you look...

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

My dad always told me if you've lost something, it's always in the last place you look. Why? Because when you find it, you stop looking.

I am so thankful as of yesterday for an honest neighbour.

I live in apartment building, so the mailboxes are all grouped together in the front hallway. Yesterday I was waiting for Becky to pick me up for yoga class and decided it was probably a good idea to check my mailbox, because it was filled to the brim. I fiddled through what felt like 50 keys on my keyring and opened up the mailbox.  I then remembered I had sheets and towels drying in the laundry room, so I quickly popped my head in to see if they were almost dry. Not even close, they were still soaking wet- perfect, they'll be done when my yoga class is over. Speaking of which, Becky had just pulled up to my building, so I grabbed my yoga mat and skipped off to her car.

After yoga class we drove back to my building and I felt relaxed and rejuvinated. "Thanks for the ride Becky!" I yelled out as I stepped out the door. I started digging through my purse... no keys. I started digging through my jacket pockets- no keys. NO KEYS! Then my cell phone rings and my boyfriend tells me that a man that lives on our floor came by and said he saw my keys hanging in my mailbox and dropped them off.

Yes, my keys with my car key which clearly has an "H" for honda on it, my work keys, my house keys, everything hangs on that keychain... any person could have taken the keys and stolen my car, broken into my apartment (because the keys were hanging on my mailbox which says my apartment number in big bold numbers). But no, this lovely man came by and dropped them off.

When you live in an apartment building, and I've lived in many, it's not unsual to not know most of the people who live on your floor- even if you've lived in the building for a year. I've maybe seen 3 people from my floor, that's all. So now I know this man lives on my floor, but I've never seen him before. It's so great knowing that there are still honest people living around us.

I know right now my mom is reading this blog and shaking her head. She has been telling me since I was a little girl that I don't pay attention to what I'm doing and that's why I lose everything. I'm SORRY mom, I swear this won't happen again :)
