Some of my earliest memories of my family and I were vacations we got to take. From trips to South Africa, England, Scotland to right across the boarder, we got to ravel a lot. We did the road trip to Florida multiple times. I was really lucky to have parents who had no problem loading up 3 pre-teens in a van for over 24 hours. We used to have this mini tv with a built in VCR and for weeks before our vacation my mom would leave a tape in the VCR during the day while she was at work that would record daytime television. So we'd get to watch episodes of The Price Is Right, The Jenny Jones Show, and tons of others. My dad would hook up the tv to the lighter outlet in the van and the tv would sit on a stand behind my moms seat. Yes, this was before there were built in tvs with dvd players in vans, so it was pretty high tech at the time.
For some people, staying over in motels on the way to a vacation destination spot isn't fun. You don't know who's been sleeping in the bed... it was no different for me. It always felt kind of strange sleeping in a bed and using a shower that hundreds of other people had used. But I always found it fun seeing what our hotel rooms looked like. It was exciting getting the key and turning the door handle to see what we would be staying in overnight or that week. This story has a point, I promise. I'm getting there.
My mom and dad would always tell me to take off that top comforter that most hotels have on the hotel bed. You know what I'm talking about? That decorative comforter that is on top of the sheets, because they knew the bed sheets got washed, but they weren't sure how often the comforter got washed. So we would place the comforter aside for the week and each of us would sleep in our beds with just sheets.
Hearing THIS new concept would probably put my parents into a state of shock.
3 Holiday Inns in Britain have hired human bed warmers to warm up cold sheets. If you're staying at one of these Holiday Inns, you can request a willing staff member who will dress in an all in one fleece sleeper and they'll slip in between the sheets for you. They say the bed warmers service is like having a giant hot water bottle in your bed. Uhh... I'd have to disagree. It's more like having a sweaty stranger in your bed. Why not just give your guests a hot water bottle instead of a sweaty stranger??
The bedwarmer is equipped with a thermometer so they can measure the bed's required temperature which is 20 degrees celsius.
This sounds slightly familiar... it sounds like a story my mom used to read to me when I was a kid. Oh right... Goldilocks and the 3 bears. Somebody's been sleeping in MY bed!
