Everyone's got an awkward family photo- mom made you all dress in the same coloured shirt, your brother's pulling a peace sign over your head, stuff like that. And now, there's a website dedicated to those horrible family photos, appropriately titled awkward family photos.

I laugh everytime I go onto the website, you get a bit of everything- matching 80's bright coloured knit sweaters, someone pulling a funny face, people dressed up in silly costumes in photos, and all of those were people's actually family photos that they are brave enough to post on the site for people to laugh at.

We have a pretty awkward family photo hanging in the dining room at my parents house. I was 5, my sister was 7 and my brother was 9. The story goes that day none of us were behaving. My parents wanted to get a family photo of the three siblings sitting together. They could not get the three of us to sit beside each other, my brother was teasing my sister and I, we were both overreacting and probably irritated from sitting in the same spot to get the photo. So what ended up happening? My parents took a picture of each one of us individually, and matched up the photos so it looked like we were sitting beside each other and put it in a big frame. And yes, in one of the pictures, you can see that the photos are pieced together, there's a little piece of my brothers shoulder that is higher up in my picture than it is in his.

The best part is, the pictures capture each one of our personalities perfectly- my sister has a huge smile in the picture- she's always happy and perky. My brother is pulling a naughty face, as if he's just teased my sister or I. And in my photo? I had just been sulking, and I look upset and dramatic. That doesn't sound fitting, does it? No... not at all...

You don't know how many times I've heard the story told of this big photo of the three of us that hangs in my parents living room.
