A No-Present Agreement. Does it ever work???

Wednesday, December 03, 2008

You're most probably trying to save money this Christmas, so I'm wondering if you have an agreement with your significant other, or family members to NOT get each other gifts??

Here's the way I look at it... do I really need more STUFF? I'd rather family members save the money and not get me a gift, and that way I can save money too and it's, as my mom calls it, "Even Stevens"

Here's a bit of a problem though, and it happened to me last year. My family is pretty big on birthdays... Me specifically. I start to mention my birthday about 6 months in advance... sometimes even the day after my birthday. Anywho, last year my sister and I agreed to not get each other a present. We'd make or buy a card, but that was it. We didn't want to spend the money and neither of us really wanted anything. So, my birthday rolls around first in February... get a present from my parents... from my brother... See just a card from my sister, open it up and inside is money. MONEY?? We just agreed we wouldn't get each other anything!

So I saved the money, put it in my desk drawer, and when her birthday came around in March, I put the exact same bills she gave me into her card!

Are you planning on having an agreement with anyone to not get each other presents??
