BUDGET VOTE AT QUEEN'S PARK
The Ontario budget is expected to pass today, eliminating the threat of a summer election campaign once and for all.
The legislature is being recalled for one day to vote on the minority government's budget, which the New Democrats have said they will allow to pass.
The NDP won several concessions from the Liberals in exchange for not blocking the budget, including a tax on incomes over $500,000 and more money for people on welfare.
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says she was surprised Premier Dalton McGuinty threatened a summer election after the opposition parties made more budget changes.
Horwath says she's glad cooler heads prevailed and there won't be an election.
However, deputy premier Dwight Duncan says Horwath and the NDP can't be trusted to keep their word, so the Liberals will watch today's vote very closely.
