Rediscovering the music you grew up with

Okay I have a confession to make. I do sometimes listen to music that B101 doesn't play. SHOCKING!! :) Don't get me wrong I do love B101 and listen to it 99% of the time. But sometimes I like to revisit my youth and listen to something else... maybe Pearl Jam or R.E.M. And I do LOVE those Muchmusic Dance Mix CDs from the 90's.
But there was this one band I discovered in the mid 90's that had been around for 25 years (at that time.) They had such a unique sound. They could sound like a metal band, then they could sound like an 80's keyboard-based band. Who are they? A little Canadian band called Rush.
Now I know you're saying "Really... Rush?? They're so unhip. They're not cool." And THAT'S why I liked them. Because I wasn't hip or cool when I was a teen. I suppose I could relate to them. They could never fit into the mainstream either.
Now you could also be saying "Chris that band is soooooo old isn't that you're parent's kind of music?" And I would say yes to that. But some teens these days know their parent's music too... and maybe even their grandparent's music too. Teens know about The Beatles, The Jackson 5, The Rolling Stones, etc.
We all have our "closet bands/singers" that we listen to. I'm glad I've finally come out with this. I LOVE new music! But once in a while you have to remember where music came from and listen to a few "classics."
What's your "closet band or singer?"
