Over the past couple of days I've been seeing a lot of stuff online about making helmets mandatory when riding a bike.  It's already law for kids to wear them, but what about the rest of us? 

There was a time when seatbelts were only an option.  You could wear them if you wanted to, but it wasn't law.  Through lots and lots of crash tests and tons of data, they ended up making it illegal to not wear your seatbelt.

Now think back to when you were a kid.  I know I fell off my bike quite a few times, and I was quite lucky that I never banged my head on the ground.  But I remember scraping my knees and arms, and it hurt. 

I used to ride a three-wheeler too.  They're illegal now, but they're like a four-wheeled ATV but with only 3 wheels.  Anyway, I remember when I first starting driving it that I never wore a helmet.  But I had it flip over on me, and my head hit the ground.  I was very lucky and thought to myself that I should really start wearing a helmet. 

Of course we did really stupid things when WE were kids, but we learned from them.  Now that I'm married and have a child, I know that people depend on me to be there for them.  I don't want to end up being a vegetable or dying because I didn't wear a helmet.
